Kenyan President inspects Mariakani 400kV substation project

2025-03-19Kenyan President William Ruto recently inspected the Mariakani 400kV substation, a key infrastructure initiative undertaken by China CAMC Engineering Co. President Ruto was accompanied by Vice-President Kithure Kindiki and Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho.

During the visit, President Ruto received a detailed briefing on the project's progress and commended the achievements made so far. He emphasized the substation's crucial role in enhancing the quality and reliability of electricity supply in Kenya's coastal regions. He also urged all stakeholders to expedite the power delivery process, aligning with Kenya's goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2030.
As an EPC turnkey project, the Mariakani 400kV substation involves geological exploration, design, civil construction, equipment installation, commissioning, and trial operations. The project has already obtained its provisional acceptance certificate, marking a major milestone. Once completed, it will significantly alleviate power shortages, reduce electricity costs, and improve grid stability, providing strong support for the sustainable economic growth in Kenya's coastal areas.
